Tell us about yourself:

My name is Evan Moore. I am a folk singer/songwriter from Houston Texas and New York City. Just this year, I released my debut full length concept album called, The Perennial Millennial. I primarily sing, drum, play guitar, and write all my lyrics on my own.

Name of your most recent release:

The Perennial Millennial

Why are you a songwriter?

I am a songwriter because I did not see anyone in the mainstream or underground make the kind of music I wanted to hear. My songs to me come from a very inherently political world that I did not feel was being accessed. There is also a punk-feeling that is lacking in a lot of folk and indie music that I would like to revive with in my music.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

I am most proud of the music community that I come from. Specifically my Topaz people out in Brooklyn and across New York City. They are the reason I am anywhere near as good as I am. They all create amazing music themselves, and with their help both figuratively and literally, my music benefits.

Share the most interesting writing experience you ever had:

One newer song I have been working on, I wrote on a bench in the park. I was racking my brain for a good adjective for this relatively melancholy song, and I yelled at a runner, "word for nostalgia!" They blurted back, "a sweet mystery", and they kept running. A sublime moment that went into my song, "Wax Myrtle 2009".

What makes you unique as a songwriter?

As I mentioned before, my songs are very much of the present. I try to pull as much from my political philosophy to inform my music, alongside my influences that range from Fleet Foxes and Angel Olsen, all the way to the Talking Heads, Bob Dylan, and even rappers such as Kendrick Lamar or Killer Mike.

If you could write with anyone (dead or alive) who would it be and why?

I would love to be able to write alongside Joni Mitchell in the 1970s.

How can the Serious Songwriter community help you?

All I want at this stage of my music career, is to be able to prove my worth in front of an audience and hope that my music is able to speak for itself.

What can you help the Serious Songwriter community with?

I can help advertise and make more people aware of the Serious Songwriter community.

Fun Fact About You:

I was originally a drummer, and currently drum on and off for upwards of 3 or so different bands in New York.
