+ Does my song need to literally be about social distancing?

Nope! Feel free to use the prompt 'distance' as your song's title, concept, or simply as a jumping off point. Creativity is encouraged!

+ How many songs can I submit?

You can submit as many songs you'd like. Every individual song requires a separate submission and submission fee.

+ I'm stuck at home without access to a recording studio. Is it ok if I submit a song that doesn't have pro-level production?

That's totally fine! No need to submit a fully produced track. We don't evaluate songs based on production value. Acoustic songs are very much welcomed. Feel free to record your song via your webcam or smartphone!

+ I live outside of the USA. Can I still participate?

Yes, you can submit from anywhere in the world.

+ Do I need to make a video?

Yes, only video submissions are accepted, but no need to worry about making your submission look like a Hollywood film. Production quality of your video will not be considered when evaluating your song. You can also simply upload static cover art for your video, if you'd rather not be shown in your video.

+ Is there a minimum age to participate?

You must be at least 18 years old to submit your song.

+ I'd like to find co-writers to write my song!

Great, you can find out how to co-write over the internet here. In addition, we started a Facebook Group for songwriters to connect.

+ How are songs evaluated?

Songs are judged equally on lyrics, melody, composition, and originality. Production value and quality of your performance are not considered when evaluated.

+ Tell me more about the charity GlobalGiving.

Submitting your song helps raise awareness for GlobalGiving's Coronavirus Relief Fund. If you'd like to make a donation, you can do so here.

+ How much does it cost to enter the Songathon Prompt Challenge?

There is a $5.95 submission processing fee per entry to help our small organization pay for costs associated with running the challenge, like online voting software.

+ How can I vote on my favorite song?

You'll have one week to cast your vote once voting opens on May 2nd. Enter your email here to be notified when voting opens.

+ Do I retain rights to my song(s)?

Yes, Songathon takes no ownership of any songs. Please only submit songs that you either own 100% of the rights to or have explicit permission from your co-writers to submit. Click here to read the Official Rules of Songathon Prompt Challenge.

+ What are the prizes?

You can win two prizes: the Judge's Choice Award - determined by the Songathon team and our guest judges and the Audience Choice Award - determined by public voting which will begin on May 2nd. Prizes include mentoring sessions, free websites, and being featured on Songathon's blog and social media channels.

+ What genres are acceptable?

All genres are welcome as long as your song has lyrics and does not exceed 5 minutes in total length.

+ Do my lyrics need to be in English?

All languages are welcome. Please make sure you submit your lyrics in English though. You can use Google Translate for that, for example.

+ When will winners be announced?

Winners will be announced on May 11, 2020.

+ What if I have a question that isn't answered here?

Your question may be answered in the Songathon Prompt Challenge Official Rules. If not, no worries, you can DM Us on Instagram or Facebook, or send us an email at hello@songathon.org!
