How To Create A Professional Looking Lyric Sheet

When pitching your songs to publishers and music supervisors, you’ll need a well-formatted lyric sheet to represent your song. There are a lot of misconceptions of what a professional lyric sheet should look like, so we’ve put together this resource to help you succeed in crafting a proper one. Remember, a lyric sheet is essentially your music resume. Here’s the best way to format and include all the information necessary:

  • Make sure you type your lyric sheet, don’t write it by hand

  • Stick to easy to use fonts, such as Helvetica and Arial

  • Ensure the entire lyric sheet fits on one sheet of paper

  • Single spaced, there is no reason to double space your lyric sheet

  • The font sizes should be reasonable, don’t go beyond size 18

  • No chords! You can omit chords on a lyric sheet

  • Only write out your chorus once, unless the lyrics change

  • At the very bottom include your contact details (email and phone number) and the copyright date of the song
